NWFP Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq has asked Peshawar Electric Supply Corporation (Pesco) authorities to work on emergency grounds for restoring power supply to the worst hit five districts of the province so that the affected people could be provided succour as well as accelerate relief operation there.

He was talking to Pesco chief Brigadier Sakhi Marjan at Peshawar wherein the situation of power supply to the quake-hit areas as well as problems faced by the people were discussed in depth and necessary decisions taken.

The Senior Minister lauded steps of Wapda authorities for providing electricity to the quake affected areas free of cost for three months saying that it would facilitate the affectees in reviving their life routines besides expediting relief operation there.

However, he underlined the need of promptly restoring the transmission system to all affected areas, including remote villages, so that people of the affected areas could be early benefited of this concession.

He eulogised day and night efforts of Wapda officials, including the chief executive Pesco, who visited the worst hit areas, including Balakot and AJK, many times and restored power supply in his supervision.

He expressed the confidence that other nation-building departments and their authorities would demonstrate the same spirit and would discharge their duties in a befitting manner.

Brigadier Sakhi Marjan also apprised the Senior Minister of the schemes being implemented to provide electricity to the maximum number of people, especially in far-flung hilly areas in the province.

The Senior Minister expressed satisfaction over the performance of the Pesco and assured all out help to the company on behalf of the provincial government.

EDUCATION FACILITIES: Meanwhile, presiding over a meeting about up gradation of schools and colleges at the Civil Secretariat here, Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq directed the concerned authorities to perform the duties of expanding education facilities in the province, especially in the quake-affected areas with missionary zeal.

He said that a slight negligence or lethargy on part of the concerned authorities in this respect could darken the bright future of our generation in vital sector of education and hence they must be careful in achieving the targets.
